The VA San Diego Healthcare System provides transportation services to eligible Veterans
VA San Diego Healthcare System Veterans Transportation (Travel Benefits Program)

Veterans may be eligible for payment or reimbursement for travel costs for scheduled medical appointments or return mileage for unscheduled visits for patients without a medical appointment.
If you meet the criteria below, you may be eligible for mileage reimbursement or special mode transport in association with obtaining VA health care services.
You qualify if:
- you have a service-connected (SC) rating of 30 percent or more, or
- you are traveling for treatment of a SC condition, or
- you receive a VA pension, or
- your income does not exceed the maximum annual VA pension rate, or
- you are traveling for a scheduled compensation or pension examination
You qualify for Special Mode Transportation (Ambulance, Wheelchair van etc.) if:
- your medical condition requires an ambulance or a specially equipped van as determined by a VA clinician, and
- you meet one of the eligibility criteria listed above, and
- the travel is pre-authorized (authorization is not required for emergencies if a delay would be hazardous to life or health)

Disabled American Veterans (DAV)

Through the Transportation Network, DAV volunteers drive sick and disabled veterans to and from VA medical facilities for treatment.
DAV Transportation from Imperial Valley

DAV has a van that brings Veterans in from Imperial Valley on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. They meet at the airport at 7am and arrive at the hospital at 9:15, so appointments have to be scheduled after 9:30 and van leaves back to Imperial Valley (airport) at 2:00pm. MUST SCHEDULE RIDE.
North County Transportation Service
North County (San Marcos, Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas) has a VA Volunteer Transportation Network. Veteran needs to have an appointment scheduled in CPRS. The volunteers provide individual door to door transportation to/from the Oceanside VA Clinic. The Volunteer Transportation Network is also available to transport veterans from North County (except Bonsall and Fallbrook) to VA La Jolla for scheduled appointments. Fisher House Foundation provides free airline tickets to wounded, injured, and ill military men and women who are undergoing treatment at a military or VA medical center and to attend authorized events.
Veteran’s Airlift Command
The VAC provides free air transportation to wounded veterans and their families for medical and other compassionate purposes, through a national network of volunteer aircraft owners and pilots.
